We "see" our daughter for the first time

On January 18, 2011, we received an adoption referral for a beautiful 9 1/2 year old little girl by the name of Jian Hong.  Translated from her native Chinese, Jian Hong's name means "Building a Rainbow."  We think that the name suits her perfectly.

Jian Hong is described by her caretakers as having a "ready smile" and as being "kind and polite to everyone she meets."  We understand that she has many friends at the orphanage, she is helpful to the orphanage staff, she loves to play with stuffed animals, she enjoys riding her bike, and her favorite color is purple.  She has lived in an orphanage in Zhuhai, China since she was approximately three months old.  During that time, she has seen so many children find their "forever families" and leave the orphanage.

In the weeks that followed receipt of her referral, we thought long and hard about this process and whether we could and should adopt again...we had dreamed of having a daughter for as long as we could remember, but there was so much to consider and so much to do.  While we thought about our dream and whether we would be able to take this enormous step, we kept coming back to Jian Hong's referral and to her beautiful face, smile, and spirit.  As with our two prior adoptions, we again fell in love with a child we had never met...

 We love her "peace" sign!
